Lawn Die Rules

Overview

Objective: Lawn Die is a dynamic 2-on-2 (or team play) outdoor game that blends the precision of cornhole with the unpredictability of dice. The objective is to be the first team to reach 11 points by strategically tossing a die onto a curved board while the opposing team attempts to catch it.

Gameplay Overview:

  • Shoot: The offensive team aims to land the die on the board for points or sink it through the hole for maximum points.

  • Catch: The defensive team tries to catch the die after it bounces off the board to prevent the offensive team from scoring.

  • Win: Teams alternate roles, and the first to accumulate 11 points wins the game.

Start of the game: Players (or one team member) will roll or toss a dice at the same time which decides who will play offense first. Closest to the front of the board shoots (plays offense) first.

Each offensive player gets a die and shoots until they don’t score. When both players’ turns are complete, they switch to play defense.

Rules: 1) Throw from anywhere behind the line (21 feet). You can throw overhand or underhand, but the die must be thrown upward.

2) You can only use one hand to catch the die; however you may trap it against your body. Defense team members must stand behind the front of the board.

3) Every time a team scores, they continue throwing attempts. You only stop throwing if you miss the board or the die is caught.

To Score: 1) A team will not receive any points if a die misses the board completely or the die is caught by the defensive team after bouncing off of the board.

2) A team will receive one point when the die hits the board and then lands on the ground without being caught.

3) Sink the die into the hole and receive three points. If a team sinks two shots in a single turn, it is an automatic win for the team.

4) Overtime is possible if both teams are tied at 11 points or higher. The team that is ahead after the first round of overtime wins!
